Economy Candy has been serving the needs of New Yorkers since 1937. A second generation concern they have a
nice large store in the heart of New York's Lower East Side. The selection is outstanding. Starting with your regular non
chocolate candy you can find everything from Clark bars to Jelly Beans. The dried fruits and nuts are outstanding.
Everything from dried Apples to Tart Cherries with stops in between for dried bananas, bing cherries, pears, peaches,
papaya, nectarines and a host of others. The selection of nuts is equally impressive with everything from almonds to
walnuts. Of course this is echocolatenyc so we are most concerned with the chocolate selection and this is what a recent
visit (March 2006) revealed. About 20 different Cadbury/Nestle imported bars including Violet Crumbles, Aero Mint bars
and Maltesers. 10 different Cote D'or bars including dark, hazelnut and milk. 5 different Cafe Tasse bars. 6 different
Droste items. 2 different El Rey bars and 6 Feodoras. Then there were the 14 different Lindt bars and since it was
Easter season a nice large stack of gold foil wrapped Lindt bunnies. 6 different Ritter bars, Niederegger marzipan, a
bunch of different Scharffen Berger bars, Toblerone bars and a few Valrhona bars. Add to this a nice selection of Kinder
Bunnies as well as eggs, Ashers sugar free, boxes of Perugina, chocolate covered mini matzos from Bartons and the list
goes on. Then of course foiled wrapped chocolate poker chips and "it's a girl" cigars and foil wrapped soccer balls. 10
different flavors of Jordan almonds. 30+ varieties of licorice. Then their is the assortment of chocolate dipped items.
Pretzels, apricots, orange slices, orange peels just about everything you could imagine dipped. We stopped counting at
30 different items. Then of course a nice selection of cordials. This store is definitely worth a visit.
