04/05/2008 - A recent visit found that our previous review has held up rather well. Mr. Torres still makes a quality
product and his newer stores in Manhattan, Chocolate Haven and Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side have
had little impact on the quality of his Brooklyn shop.
2006 - The first store of the Jacques Torres mini chain. A lovely little shop nestled in a few blocks from the river in
DUMBO. Extremely easy to get to from Manhattan as the three different train lines that run near the store all run
frequently. Also it is the first stop in Brooklyn so a trip from the East Side of Manhattan is fairly easy.
We've yet to come across an unpleasant item in Mr. Torres's domain and some personal favorites are Love Potion #9
(Dark Chocolate ganache), Grand Cru (Red Wine), Fresh Squeezed Lemon (Lemon in Dark Chocolate) , Champagne
Truffles and Love Bug (White Chocolate with Key Lime).
His Chocolate Bars are an exceptional value. A recent visit had us munching on a plain, old, good fashioned regular
Milk Chocolate Bar on our walk back to the Subway. It was possibly the smoothest Milk Chocolate we had ever had. We
were struck by how satisfying Milk Chocolate in its natural state could be.
His $2.50 Mud Slide - all chocolate cookie - maybe the best sweet tooth satisfying deal available anywhere in the city.
