05/09/2008 - Little changes at the Godiva shops. Each years new G Line are winners. The two things from our
perspective that Godiva brings to the table are the convenience of getting a seasonal gift, (Mother's Day, Valentine's
Day, Easter etc. they have something nice) and those fresh dipped strawberries. We love those strawberries. With
Godivas all over town we can drop by and grab a couple for snacking pretty much anywhere we travel in Manhattan.
The stores are also kept up nicely and outside of the security guards who we've found to be overly aggressive and a bit
annoying the staff are usually friendly and helpful.
2006 - Probably the most familiar high end chocolate for most Americans. It has become fashionable of late to down
play Godiva's products and the legacy they have in the U.S. Chocolate industry. Still one has to admire the attempts
Godiva has made in the last few years to augment their core product line. Bringing in Norman Love to launch the G Line
(by the way we really enjoyed the Orange Gianduja) was inspired even if it didn't take off as well as anticipated. Having
strawberries hand dipped daily on premises is another nice touch that elevates the line. In fact we've found that the
basic Godiva milk chocolate bar to be quite nice and well worth the price. The new Chocolixir is a nice cool and relaxing
chocolate beverage. We recently sampled some in 80+ degree heat outdoors and it held up remarkably well. Not all of
the boutiques currently carry Chocolixir so call in advance if that is what you're looking for.
