June 2005 News
June 30 2005 - It's that time of the year when many stores start switching to summer hours. We will try to update the
store listings as we become aware of changes.  Some stores have already been updated even though the new hours do
not kick in for a few more days yet.  It is a good idea this time of year to call ahead if possible before visiting any
chocolate shops.  If you find any erroneous information on this site please
contact us and we will correct it.
June 28 2005 - Saturday the 26th we by chance happened upon the Godiva Chocolixir truck parked on 64th St and
Broadway.  We had not yet tasted the product so we felt this was a fortuitous circumstance.  The truck, done up in the
Godiva trademark brown, was parked for quite awhile handing out freshly made samples of the chocolate drink to
anyone wandering down the street.  Our reaction was quite positive.  Of course when one receives anything cold and
free, when the thermometer is hitting 85, you already feel ahead of the game. Even still, the Chocolixir, which has the
consistency of a slightly melted fudgsicle with tiny pieces of Godiva chocolate floating in it all topped off with a dollop of
whipped cream, was certainly a cool refreshing break on a very hot day. As an aside we would like to compliment the
folks at Godiva for pursuing such an innovative program of dispensing free product.  The Godiva employees manning
the truck were polite and well informed about the product as we barraged them with a series of echocolatenyc questions.
We've often wondered why more chocolatiers do not provide samples of new product.  We have yet to come across an
ice cream store that doesn't provide a small tasting of an inquired about flavor.  Some chocolate shops of course do
provide samples.  Some that quickly spring to mind are
Vosges (there is usually a tray of small pieces of whatever the
newest product
Vosges has released on the counter), Kee's (we have received imperfect chocolate pieces that have
been damaged coming out of the molds) and the tasting we attended at
Christopher Norman which was wonderful.
We will be happy to list any upcoming tastings so shop keepers don't be afraid to
drop us a line with any pertinent
information.
