December 31, 2006 - A Brooklyn, New York woman upset over receiving her hot chocolate with no whipped cream assaulted the Dunkin
Donuts worker who made it. She threw the drink in his face and then proceded to attack him with the door that she ripped off of a
refrigerator. The Lexington Herald - Leader out of Kentucky recently reviewed and compared eight different drinking chocolates. They rated
Ghirardelli number one.
Read the rankings here. The following is a link to a picture of a 1,000 kg. cake that is on display in a shopping
mall in the centre of Kiev. The cake is composed of  over 4,600 eggs, 131 kg of sugar, 151 kg of flower, 23 kg cocoa-powder, 217 kg of
cherries, 360 kg of cream and 52.5 kg of black and white chocolate.
December 28, 2006 - Like we here at eChocolateNYC need an excuse but today and tomorrow are designated as National Chocolate
Day according to The National Confectioners Association. On
Tuesday January 2nd tickets will go on sale for The 22nd annual Chocolate
Fest that will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Knoxville Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Dunkin' Donuts is introducing white
chocolate to its roster of hot drinks.
Read the Press release here. Vandals found a new use for chocolate when they attacked the library at
the Capital High School in Helena, Montana and poured chocolate syrup into the computers in the library as well as on the carpeting and
threw hundreds of the books onto the floor. We do find ourselves agreeing with  Helena School District library coordinator Suzi Watne who
commented “It definitely was not a chocolate lover or a reader who did this. A chocolate lover wouldn’t waste this much chocolate — it must
have been a vanilla fan,”

Turkish food company Ulker Group plans on spinning off its Ulker Chocolate and Ideal Foods units and bringing them to market
sometime in 2007. Lickity Split Chocolate LLC
is owned by 35 Navajo children in the state of Utah. They recently received a national award
from the Small Business Administration. The companies best seller is a chocolate lollipop in the shape of a Navajo Prayer basket.

Researchers at the University
of Washington have found that holiday baking has a direct effect on the Puget Sound. Tests of sewage
showed cinnamon, vanilla and artificial vanilla levels rose between Nov. 14 and Dec. 9, with the biggest spike right after Thanksgiving. The
research shows pretty much everything eventually ends up in our water supply and the question arises since many fish use a sense of
smell to find their way about do these seasonal fluctuations affect them.
December 25, 2006 - Of course before anything else we here at eChocolateNYC wish all of our visitors a very Merry Christmas and please
let us know of any Christmas chocolate discoveries you make this holiday season.  The Delhi, India airport is being redone in time for the
2010 Commonwealth Games. Along with the alterations they have rented space to Nirula who produce a popular Hot Chocolate Fudge.
 
The Holy Cross Abbey’s bakery, a Trappist monastery in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, has raised money for the monastery for decades
through sales of its signature fruitcake. Facing declining sales as tastes have changed they were fortunate enough to partner with Brenda
Casabona and her husband, Charlie, the owners of  De Fluri’s Fine Chocolates in Martinsburg. The Casabonas experimented and soon
found they could dip slices of the fruitcake in chocolate and had created something new. The Casabona's started selling the slices and the
monastery also sells the
slices through their website. Falls Church, Virginia,  resident B. Keith Ryder , proprietor of BCakes by BKeith has
added  chocolates to his cake business. This

South Bend Chocolate Company is making 14-thousand pounds of chocolate a day, double their average 7,000 lb a
day output , for the holiday season. The Indiana concern finds Christmas the busiest time of the year with Valentine's Day second.
British
ingredients firm Tate & Lyle has been moving towards creating ingredients that will allow dessert manufacturers the ability to create
desserts without using trans fats. With the growing momentum away from trans fats especially the banning of trans fats in New York City
restaurants Tate & Lyle are getting ahead of the curve in what looks like a growing marketplace.

- Haagen Dazs has announced a contest the winner who will be showered with prizes and more importantly change
the face of Ice Cream as we know it. It is create your own flavor which must be a flavor that can be made from common household
ingredients. Ah does white chocolate have caffeine and if so how much.

tips about microwaving chocolate for dipping. Don't forget even a drop of water can ruin a batch. Wednesday bought a batch of Polish
chocolate being sold in Greece that was worm ridden
and now a court in New Delhi, India has ordered Cadbury to pay out 15,000 rupees
($335) in compensation for a man who bought some Cadbury chocolate in 2003 and was embarrassed when he gifted it to a friend who
opened it at a party and discovered it worm ridden. Cadbury's defense which was the chocolate was improperly stored by the retailer was
shipped by them in perfect condition and they couldn't be held liable for what happened after the product left their control. CardioPower

Waitrose the British retailer has announced they will be carrying their own brand of Fair trade chocolate including a
dark chocolate version that will have a 70% cocoa content. The Hershey Company
announced Friday the opening of its new Global
Customer Innovation Center. Here customers and Hershey personnel will be able to team up to create new products using the Hershey
brand. The Global Customer Innovation Center is located on Hershey's headquarters campus in Hershey, Pa.
 Out of Hawaii Dole has
released Waialua Extra Dark Chocolate -- made of 70 percent cacao --  The cacao was planted on about 20 acres of land in 1996, after the
Waialua Sugar Mill closed. The beans are transformed into chocolate by Guittard in San Francisco and can be ordered at the Dole
Plantation Store
or their online branch. The Carefur-Marinopoulos supermarket chain in Greece was hit with a piece of bad chocolate luck
this week. An inspection by The Central Macedonia Regional Food Inspection Department led to the recall of chocolate produced by the
Polish firm INDA POLSKA. Hundreds of the bars were found to be infested with worms in differing states of evolution.
December 19, 2006 - The Kalamazoo Gazette takes a look at high end hot chocolate a examines products by Marie Belle, Dufflet Hot
Sipping Chocolate and Bellagio Sipping Chocolate. A
list of San Diego's top ten dessert spots from Sign On San Diego. Chuao
Chocolatier makes the list as well as an assortment of bakeries.
 Kathy's Kandies & Chocolate Lounge in Lafayette Indiana has moved
three blocks to a new location. Anna Mazzoccoli,
was downsized and used her time to realize her dream of studying chocolate making and
opened Xocolat Corner, a chocolate shop in Closter, New Jersey. She carries a large line of different chocolates and makes her own
chocolate bark.
 Chalk this up to more good news for Dark Chocolate. Researchers in the United Kingdom have found that sufferers of
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), have found their symptoms alleviated with the consumption of 45g of specially formulated dark
chocolate.  The following is a reprint of a Press Release from Nestle. Mrs. Nelly Wenger has informed Nestlé of her decision to resign as
Managing Director of Nestlé Switzerland in order to secure the best possible conditions for her full recovery and allow the Company to
ensure management continuity at its Swiss subsidiary. Nestlé expressed its gratitude for Mrs. Wenger's commitment over the two years
she spent at the helm of Nestlé Switzerland and for her understanding, and wishes her a complete recovery. Mr. Hervé Cathelin, who had
been asked to take over operational responsibility of Nestlé Switzerland during her leave of absence for health reasons, will continue to
head the Swiss market.
